THE NATIONAL FEDERATIONS. In every country where bobsleigh or skeleton is actively practiced, there is a national federation that is responsible for these sports disciplines. It bundles and represents the interests and is the first point of contact for the athletes in the respective country. Learn more.. The year 2015 marked Winterberg's first time hosting the joint bobsleigh and skeleton World Championships with five disciplines: women's skeleton, men's skeleton, 2-woman bobsleigh, 2-man bobsleigh and 4-man bobsleigh. In 2024, the agenda at Winterberg's fifth World Championships will see medals being awarded in a total of seven events.

The Olympic ice track has a long tradition. The first World Championships took place here in 1935, although back then the races were still held on a natural track. The era of artificial ice began in the early 1960s. For the 1964 Olympic Games in Innsbruck, two separate artificial ice tracks were built for the bobsleigh and luge competitions..
